"Back Country Suite" (1957) by Mose Allison

Mississippi  boy's - who must have been very young, because only young people have this visions and courage to burst in the world with instrumental "suites" - very first album debut and its almost all instrumental and composed 90% by artist himself. He and his guys are swinging like crazy and to my ears this sounds very much like best of Ray Charles piano work. Pieces are short & sweet, completely uncompromising towards pop market and therefore genuinely fresh and interesting to listen, even now half a century later. It is not a late night purring but more like energetic outburst of a man full of ideas - instrumentals are fine but best of all is when he is finally sings with this incredibly appealing southern drawl, no wonder listeners were confused and assumed he must have been black. Very nice voice indeed. Towards the end of the album he does few covers - he uses melody from "Blueberry Hill" as a starting point and than flies away, same for "I Thought About You ". Excellent.
