Anton Walbrook

If beautiful red-haired Moira Shearer got catapulted to the stars in "The Red Shoes", the movie still managed to forever save the visual presence of excellent Austrian actor Anton Walbrook who deeply impressed me, so much in fact that i decide to mention him on my blog as old classic actors are little neglected elsewhere.

Walbrook was apparently educated, sensitive man (concert pianist!) from Vienna who left Austria because he was half-jewish, openly anti -Nazi  and moved to UK where for the rest of his life he played enigmatic continental types, most of his colleagues agree he was quite distant from the rest of the crowd and never really "belonged" to  crowds. I found his performance in "The Red Shoes" so unforgettable that I wanted to mention him here. Gone but not forgotten.
